By entering at the top with 'Everybody in love' they have become the 12th act in chart history to enter at number 1 with their first 2 singles; the others are: Billie Piper Westlife Leona Lewis Arctic Monkeys Alexandra Burke Will young Gareth Gates Hearsay Robson and Jerome B*witched Mcfly This of course spells bad news for 'Girls Alouder' Cheryl Cole, whose hit 'Fight for this love' has fallen to number 2 after a fortnight on top. Just below is the weeks highest climber, Black Eyed Peas 'Meet me halfway' has advanced a further 3 places on its 4th charting week and now lies at number 3. Could this song be strong enough to become their 3rd number 1 of the year? Watch this space... Moving down the chart this week are 2 of last weeks high new entries; Westlife's 'What about now' is down 6 places to 8 and Jay Sean's 'Down' is down 1 at 3, both tracks now seemingly unlikely to hit the top. Also moving down this week is Michael Buble, after climbing to number 5 lasy week, 'Haven't met you yet' has fallen 2 to 7, although it has almost certainly now peaked, it is still by far the biggest hit of Michael's career. It's not all doom and gloom however in the top 10 as the bottom half features 2 new arrivals and 1 hit climbing from the teens. The 2nd highest new entry of the week is R&B star, Kei$ha's 'Tick tock'. This is Kei$ha's 2nd UK hit,but her first as a solo artist, her last hit being her number 1 collaboration with Flo Rida, 'Right round' back in March. Also new in the top 10 are UK dance and electronic producers Saul Milton and Will Kennard, better known as Chase and Status. 'End credits' is the first top 40 hit for the duo having previously only been as high as number 45 in the past (Against all odds in March). The track also features UK rapper Plan B who is also making his top 40 debut, also having had minor success outside the top 40 in the past. There's good news for fans of Lady Gaga, having missed the top 10 with her last 2 hits (Lovegame, Chillin') her new track 'Bad romance' has climbed 4 places to number 10 after its number 14 debut last week. 'Bad romance is Gaga's 6th hit and 4th to reach the top 10. Just outside the top 10 is a chart u-turner, Jay Z and Alicia Keys former number 2 hit 'Empire state of mind' has climbed back up 2 places to 11 on its 8th charting week, just missing out on a return to the top 10. Unfortunately the outlook for Miley Cyrus's latest hit 'Party in the USA' is not as rosy, having moved down 2 places to 13 it seems this may well be her 3rd hit to peak at 11 and she is yet to crack the top 10. There's a new entry at 15 for Snow Patrol's latest single 'Just say yes'. It's the bands 11th top 40 hit, but their first in over a year. Their last top 40 hit was 'Take back the city' peaked at 6 last October, they have since then had a minor hit 'Crack the shutters' which narrowly missed the top 40 last Christmas. The bands biggest hit in terms of chart positions is their 2007 number 4 hit 'Signal fire'. Moving up to another new peak is Paolo Nutini's 'Pencil full of lead'. The song has jumped 11 places up to number 17 and in the process has become the 2nd biggest hit of his career, surpassing the the number 21 peak of 'New shoes' (2007), the number 20 peak of 'Jenny don't be hasty' (2006) and the number 19 peak of 'Candy' (2009). Paolo's biggest hit is still, of course 'Last request', his number 5 hit in summer of 2006. Also reaching new heights is Calvin Harris's 'Flashback', it's moved up 7 places to 18 on only its 3rd charting week, now his 6th top 20 hit. There's a new arrival and in fact a top 40 chart debut at the bottom end of the top 20 for American rock band Journey. The track 'Don't stop believing' only peaked at 62 on its original release in 1982; this year it has had minor success outside the top 40 spending 10 weeks in the top 75 and reached number 52. But this week it's finally a top 40 hit as a result of exposure on X Factor, a new entry at 19. Also new this week is Bon Jovi's 41st top 40 hit (including Jon-Bon-Jovi) 'We weren't born to follow'. The track has landed at 25 and is already the bands biggest hit since 'Who says you can't go home' reached number 5 in 2006. Just below is another new arrival at 27, 'Broken hearted girl' is Beyonce's 17th hit as a solo artist following up her top 5 hit 'Sweet dreams' which left the chart just last week. Also new this week is 'I can transform you', a 10th top 40 hit for R&B star Chris Brown. The song has landed at 29 and is immediately his biggest hit since 'Forever' hit number 4 last Summer. Chris's biggest hit is 'Run it' which peaked at 2 in 2006. 'I can transform you' also features vocals from Lil Wayne who can boast 2 hits in this weeks top 40 as he also features on Jay Sean's 'Down'. Moving down the chart this week is 'Anyway' by Duck Sauce, it's down 9 places at 31, now looking unlikely to beat its number 22 debut. Also sliding is Cheryl Cole's '3 words', down 4 to 30; it should be noted however that the appearance of this song in the chart at all is attributed to eager downloaders as the song is not scheduled for a single release until 2010. This weeks final new entry belongs to an X Factor contestant, 'You should have known' by Laura White is at 32. At the very bottom of the chart is Florence and the machine's version of 'You got the love'. Having arrived at number 37 after 8 weeks of lingering around the top 75, this week the track has fallen 3 places to 40. Interestingly the original version of the song by Candi Statin has appeared in the top 40 3 times; it was a number 4 hit in 1991, a number 3 hit in 1997 and a number 7 hit in 2006. Perhaps everyone who wants this track has it! Several major hits have left the top 40 this week, JLS's previous chart topper 'Beat again' is down 6 at 41, Pixie Lott's former number 1 'Boys and girls' is down 14 at 46 and Jay Z's number 1 hit 'Run this town' is down 7 at 47. Bubbling under the top 40 are the following potential future hits: Pixie Lott - Cry me out (45) Sean Kingston - Face drop (56) This weeks major (physical) releases are: Athlete – Black Swan Song Bandaged – All You Need Is Love Leona Lewis – Happy N-Dubz - I Need You Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance The Way I Feel Skunk Anansie – Squander Sugababes – About A Girl Last edited by brettyboy; 11-09-2009 at 02:58 AM. |
